20 things
OK, just a few things on my mind this morning. I can’t focus on work as I am too pissed about a small number of things here to care. To no one in particular:
1) Public blogs are public. Don’t get pissy if people react to them. Diaries are private. Utilize them.
2) Some people use past experiences as a crutch for their current situations. If your past experience is having your leg blown off by an explosion, you probably have a reason to limp around today. Mental wounds won’t heal if you keep picking at the scabs.
3) There was a point in my life where I was abused so bad (mainly mental abuse) that I snapped and decided I was going to kill my abuser. I had it all planned out. I dreamt about it nightly. I did a soul check and determined the best course of action was to run away. I did. And I never went back. I left Christianity there, too. I never have wanted to kill a person until then and only one other person since (the MF Gary Wayne Etheridge). I see my abuser occasionally, and I am cordial. I am just waiting for nature to take its course so I can dance on the abuser’s grave. And probably piss on it as well. However, the past events do not dictate how I am now. If it did, I’d be locked up in a mental hospital somewhere to avoid a lengthy prison sentence.
4) Sometimes the answer to your problems is the exact thing you don’t want to hear. Simplicity is usually the key. If A = B + C, then you have to take away B or C to keep from getting A. Sometimes it is just A = B.
5) A protest does not a revolution make, despite how many John Lennon songs you listen to. If religion will be your ultimate political guide, you might as well save a few lives and head back to work.
6) Fickle friends are just fucktards who are self-centered and are no friends of mine.
7) What I find ok is probably horrifically offensive to others. I will not kowtow to your standards of decency. Toleration does not mean acceptance. Tolerate me and I will tolerate you. Otherwise, fuck off.
8) I absolutely hate being lied to. Key my car, trample my hibiscus, or swear at my mother (she was Army so she can take it); lying is far worse.
9) I hate to be lied to, but I have found in my life that if I had lied, both parties would have been much better off. Sometimes principles get in the way of common sense.
10) If you show no respect to me, I’ll show you my backside as I walk away. I don’t have time to be disrespected. My memory is short when it comes to trespasses against me, but long when I commit errors.
11) Blood is supposed to be thicker than water. Those who don’t believe are usually thicker than a brick.
12) I hoe corn, so take that devil back.
13) Why do Southerners wear stupidity as a badge of honor?
14) Change will never come by electing a major party candidate.
15) Subtle mullets look good, but the Brian Bosworth `do borders on a crime against nature.
16) My dreams just won’t quit. Doc put me on an anti-anxiety med to combat the dreams at night so my jaw muscles aren’t clenched up all the time. Sad.
17) Tom Baker was the best Doctor Who, but David Tennant is pretty good.
18) I wanted to buy the Palm Pre, or at least hold it in my hand. Only releasing 4 to Best But was stupid on mammoth proportions for Palm. I think I am going to go Blackberry. Anyone want a used T/X?
19) I am beginning to wonder if affirmative action is making some workplaces completely disproportionate to population percentages. White Anglos (non Hispanic) account for 66% of the US population. ½ of that is female, so white males should account for 33% of workplace positions (this doesn’t account for successive generation data scattering, but it’s a good approximation). That is a third. As a whole, that is pretty much a minority, but I digress. We had a new hire here at my office. I just ran the numbers on the racial and sex breakdown (percentages rounded down):
- 33% male
- 66% female (duh!)
- 26% white male
- 6% Hispanic male
- 53% white female
- 13% other female (black, Indian, other minorities)
- 16% male senior positions
- 83 % female senior positions
So, while white males are pretty close overall to the general population (26 v 33 %), the white female is significantly greater. What are even odder are the “senior” positions (basically salaried management positions). We do not have the right proportion of ethnicities, though. I think that the company focused on one workplace minority than all of them. This is a chemical plant, which is odder based on university graduation data. According to one study (2005 data) shows a Chem E Female rate of 34%. Our Chem E balance is 71% (basically 5 out of 7).
20) More rules does not make things safer. It just gives more opportunity to break them.
